Handmade carpets and rugs play the same role for a home décor just like the centerpiece or eye-catching point of the home. A handmade carpet gives a royal touch to a floor. A Handmade silk carpet is woven in hand knotted technique. It takes many months and some of them more could take more than one year to complete. This is woven using piles and knots. There are two types of silk carpets. First one is SILK on SILK and the second is SILK on COTTON. In silk on silk carpet, warp and weft both are in pure silk and in silk on cotton carpet, the weft is in pure silk but warp is in cotton. A pure silk rug will have a high knot count. It should have at least 500 knots per square inch and most will have more than 500 knots per square inch. Because it has a high knot count, it should have a very intricate design pattern. A weaver can make an intricate design in silk carpet and the yarn of silk carpet is very thin which is why modern carpets are never woven in pure silk material.

Pure silk is light as a feather but strong as steel – silk is world renowned as the most luxurious and fine material on the plant. It is a natural fiber made by the silkworm – coming mostly from China, Japan & India. Pure silk is a natural material. Weavers make threads using chakra machine. Pure silk carpet is exported from China. It has very soft touch and shines look. Silk yarn is very exclusive and gives a luxurious look and that’s why this is expensive than other carpets. If you want to check that the carpets are in a pure silk or in an artificial silk then pull a thread from carpet and burn it. If the burn yarn will smell like burnt hair, it means this is silk carpet.

A handmade silk carpet is an item which is ideal for less traffic area. If you want to buy a carpet for a high traffic area then a handmade wool carpet is best. If you like to show your living style or want to impress your guest then handmade silk carpet is the best option. You can also use a handmade silk area rug as a wall hanging.

A handmade silk area rug is costly so never buy it from anywhere. You should check the customer reviews and feedback on the website. You should ask them that how old the company is? The carpet store should be trustworthy and once you are 100% satisfied with the silk carpet then you should go ahead with the purchase.
